If you’re like most of us, you need to earn money by working for a living. Describe your ultimate job. If you’re in your dream job, tell us all about it — what is it that you love? What fulfills you? If you’re not in your dream job, describe for us what your ultimate job would be.
Even though I am still in college, I have come across my dream job while traveling to India. During my sophomore year in high school, I was blessed with the opportunity to travel to India for three weeks. During those three weeks, I had so much fun but the most influential thing that happened to me was being able to work with an elementary school for a week.
During that week, we were able to teach many village children English, math and even music. It was there that I realized what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Seeing how little they had compared to how I grew up back at home, I wanted to make a difference. This is exactly what I did when I returned home from India. I ended up partnering up with the program that sent me to India, and I was able to hold fundraisers in order to collect school supplies to send to the school back in India.
During my time setting up these fundraisers, it never felt like a job. It was my passion and I enjoyed all of the time I put into gathering these supplies to send. My biggest reason for doing this was the fact that I was doing something to make a difference in children’s lives who does not have the same privilege that I have.
So once I graduate from college, it will be my dream to start my own non-profit organization that will help schools all over the world such as the one I visited in India. My passion is to help others, and I immediately felt like this was my purpose in life once returning home.
With this job, it is not about the money. It is about me changing lives. It is about me using my privilege to help others in need. At the end of the day, I am a citizen of the world and it is my job to make it a better place.
